What conditions can be treated?

In the decade since Fraxel® first pioneered true fractional laser technology, physicians around the world have treated more than 800,000 patients. Fraxel® is for people who want to look good – and want real results – but don’t want the overly change or extended downtimes that comes with surgery.
Fraxel can treat nearly all forms of acne scars including atrophic, box car, and rolling scars in addition to minimising surgical scars. The wavelength produces deep but thin columns of laser energy into the skin, which then reorganises and regenerates collagen to help lift indented scars such as those from acne, or to smooth and flatten traumatic or surgical scars.
Pore size is determined by genetics– unfortunately some of us are born with larger pores than normal. Patients with a history of oily skin or acne generally will have larger pores, in addition to those who have a history of squeezing their pimples (which is a big no-no). Enter: Fraxel, the skin renewal laser that can help zap your way to more even skin by boosting collagen and reducing the look of open and enlarged pores.

Fraxel remodels collagen and stimulates collagen production throughout the dermis of the skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and crepe-iness. After just a single treatment, you will achieve tighter, smoother and more youthful skin.

Skin pigmentation is a condition where the skin is darker and can occur in small patches or cover much larger areas of the body. These include freckles, birth marks, sun damage, age spots, dark patches, skin hyperpigmentation, sun spots and melasma. Given the harshness of the sun in Australia, no matter how much SPF you wear it can be nearly inevitable that we accumulate pigmentation on the face and body. Alas, with Fraxel, there are clinical options to reduce and even banish their appearance.
Address textural issues and balance uneven skin tone with Fraxel. Its magic laser wavelengths will help restore the skin to its original, perfect texture and achieves smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin with improved tone and texture.

Outstanding results without extended downtime

Fraxel is a non-invasive therapy that penetrates the thin, outer layer of the skin in order to target the deep layers of the skin underneath the surface for long lasting results. The Fraxel device itself is a 'Fractionated Laser' meaning it doesn't blast the entire surface of the skin, it instead creates microchannels or tiny little pixel-like dots that heat up the skin, essentially mimicking an injury, which triggers the body's natural healing response. This action pushes out the old, damaged skin and replaces it with smooth new baby skin. Fraxel can be used to target fine lines, uneven texture, acne scarring and can even help to regenerate new collagen and is amazing at getting rid of unwanted pigmentation.
Fraxel treatments usually last between 15-45 minutes depending on what you’re treating with 3-5 days of downtime where your skin will be a bit red and peeling. If you’re treating pigment, you will see results in one to two sessions and if you're trying to get rid of wrinkles or acne scarring, it's three to five sessions, however most of our clients need only a single treatment to start seeing substantial changes in their skin.

Fitting into any lifestyle and beauty regimen, Fraxel provides real change you just can’t get from lotions and cream. Simple and effective, Fraxel is clinically proven to really slow the signs of ageing.

When you arrive for your free consultation, you’ll be asked to fill out a health questionnaire before the appointment, so when the cosmetic nurse meets you, she has a good understanding of who you are. We’ll go through your full history, discussing past treatments you’ve had and discuss any worries or concerns. And most importantly, the results you would like to achieve.

We are always honest with clients when assessing their suitability for dermal fillers. If the team feel other lifting procedures would be better, we’ll tell you. Once you’ve decided to have a treatment, you will be offered numbing cream for 15 minutes to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.

With our light-handed technique, at the worst, you will feel a sharp scratch and a little pressure as the filler is injected. This will ease with further injections when the local anesthetic in the gel starts to work. There can be some redness and swelling that occurs but typically clears within 20 minutes so you can get right back to your busy day.

Sometimes bruising can come out a day later which can be covered with concealer. It does make sense to plan your diary to carry out lip fillers at least seven days before a big party or an event as more swelling can occur in this area.

We welcome you back to the clinic for a free follow-up at the 2-week mark to make sure you’re happy with the results.
The Fraxel Dual system is the latest addition to the Fraxel family of lasers. It comprises the Fraxel Re:store and the Fraxel Peel lasers in a single system. Like the Photo-Fraxional and Photo-Fraxional Peel lasers, it is a combination treatment involving the use of two lasers in a single treatment session. The combined use of the two lasers in a single session is termed Fraxel Dual. It allows treatment of both superficial and deep components of the skin. Like all the Fraxel lasers, it is a very safe procedure.
The Fraxel Dual laser is especially suited to patients with facial sun damage affecting both deep and superficial layers of the skin. It may be considered for similar skin issues as the Photo-Fraxional and the Photo-Fraxional Peel lasers. The Fraxel Dual is generally favoured for darker skin or tanned patients whereas the Photo-Fraxional combination lasers are favoured in fairer to medium and non-tanned skin types.
A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin before the procedure, and oral painkillers may also be prescribed by your doctor, which makes it well-tolerated by most patients. There may be the sensation of a slight prickling sensation with the Fraxel laser, and a sensation of heat in the skin, similar to how a sunburn develops as the treatment proceeds. This warm sensation will subside within a few hours after the treatment. Usually, no analgesia is required during the recovery period, but Panadol can be used effectively if required.
Dramatic results are usually seen after the first treatment with the Fraxel Dual laser. Typically, the skin will look fresher and clearer, with noticeable improvement in skin texture and tone. These effects are evident after the first week, once the darkened pigmentation lifts from the skin surface. The skin texture continues to improve over successive weeks to months, as the structural changes in the skin improve with the body’s natural healing processes. Even greater improvements can be achieved by a second or a third treatment, typically at 4-week intervals.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with laser skin resurfacing. The main risk associated with the Fraxel Dual laser is that of prolonged redness. This can persist for 2 or more weeks if the treatment has been strong, however is usually associated for a more dramatic improvement in the skin. There may also be a mild stinging sensation or itching of the skin in the days immediately after the procedure as the new fragile skin under the treated surface is revealed.
Aftercare is quite simple. The skin should be moisturised four times daily and the skin cleansed twice daily. Trauma to the skin such as excess heat, sunlight, and harsh skin products should be avoided for 1 week following treatment. Make-up and sunscreen may be applied at any time immediately following treatment.
Avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at least 3 weeks after treatment. Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twice a day is especially important. Wearing wide brimmed hats is highly recommended when out in the sun. Naturally it is important to minimize sun damage in the future to prevent a recurrence of the same condition.
